About Me

Hannah Laidlaw is a British photographer who is a recent graduate of Cleveland College of Art and Design, Hartlepool attaining a BA (Hons) Degree in Photography. Hannah, who is from the North East of England is an artist interested in still life, documentary and landscape photography with a focus on nature and history.

Having previously worked on several photographic projects, her most recent entitled Within the blink of an eye is a personal project looking at her family history through photographs. Hannah has created a self-published book of the same title to accompany the collection of photographs.

Hannah is now working on a new project focusing on trees. This project has been influenced by paintings and other art forms. Hannah uses light to create images that show a resemblance to abstract art.

This current project is concerned with showing the trees, particularly the branches in a different way to the traditional imagery typically seen.
This work is achieved by experimenting with movement and light to show the impact this can have on the final outcome of the images.

Within this project Hannah is also exploring the use of natural light to enhance the images when being displayed, presenting the work within frames positioned in front of a window, as this technique enables the viewer to see more of the details of the photographs.

Hannah has also created a small hand bound book of this series entitled Natures Works of Art.

Some of the artists and photographers that have created similar imagery to these photographs include, Gerhard Richter, Jackson Pollock and Ryan Bush.

As a recent graduate of Cleveland College of Art and Design, Hannah now plans to expand her visual knowledge and skills by studying a Masters of Fine Art (MFA). Her focus during this course will be to develop her practice to include a variety of other art media alongside photography.

Hannah has most recently had her work published within the 2017 Graduate Photography section of the online Source Magazine this work can be view at
